Objectives


W.6.2 a-f Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and
convey ideas, concepts, and information through the selection,
the organization, and analysis of relevant content.

W.6.9.a Apply grade 6 Reading standards to literature (e.g.,
"Compare and contrast texts in different forms or genres [e.g.,
stories and poems; historical novels and fantasy stories] in terms
of their approaches to similar themes and topics").




Activities
April 3, 2018
  • Bellwork: Students will answer the Unit 6 topic interest survey, then they will independently read.
  • Mini-Lesson: Review the parts of a literary analysis body paragraph.
  • Active Engagement: Students will analyze the components of a literary analysis body paragraph.
  • Work time: Students will write their first body paragraph analyzing how the novel Hatchet illustrates/presents the theme "the courage to persevere".
  • Exit ticket: Self-evaluation
Self-evaluation on their use of time while writing. What clarifications they would like me to go over tomorrow.
